About

Tell us about yourself.

I'm Miles, I've been cycling for close to 15 years in a guise that I would consider 'proper'. I've been lucky enough to try a multitude of disciplines, some I enjoy, others not. By day, I'm a marketeer, working for an agency specialising in cycling. I started Cycling Culture Club as coming into the community, I felt massively underrepresented and still do where I live, this needs change and I want to play some small part in that.

What do you love about cycling

For me, it's all about the freedom and the friends. The fulfilment of going places under your own steam and doing it with friends is what keeps me rooted to cycling.

What barriers have you faced in cycling

When I got into riding, I was the only person of colour in a club of 200 people. To this day, I am one of but a handful in the entire area and this feels wild to me. I know London is a different ballgame in terms of general diversity, but how can 35 miles south feel so behind? This lack of representation didn't stop me - fortunately - but it could well have and I want to help remove some of those barriers for those coming through.

Why were you interested in contributing?

It seems only fair to answer my own question, but I feel my experience in cycling and in the industry stands me in good stead to give something back.

Your fondest memory on the bike

I've got many, but I'm fortunate enough that some of my strongest friendships have been forged on two wheels and those are the friendships that have stood the test of time. One standout moment? A close friend and fellow contributor spent a week testing each other in the Alps, our similarity in fitness and personalities made it an exhilarating and memorable experience and one that I still treasure.
