Tell us about yourself

I'm Trey, I'm a Father, husband, and Bike shop owner.

What do you love about cycling?

I love pushing my limits, long days in the saddle over hundreds of kilometres. I love the thrill of going fast, technical descents, hill climbing and all of the challenges cycling brings! I've also met some really cool people through the cycling industry, like-minded individuals who have made me fall in love with bikes and cycling even more.

What barriers have you faced in cycling?

Finding helmets that fit comfortably over my dreadlocks, that was an experience I didn't anticipate. It only occurred to me later on in my cycling journey that they didn't make helmets for people like me with thick, textured hair.

Why were you interested in contributing?

I think it's important to give my perspective to the cycling world to show there is so much diversity within the cycling industry and within the culture of cycling. Black-owned bike shops are very rare, and I wanted to show or inspire anyone who is hesitating to get into the industry or the sport. Representation is important, and I want to help break down the barriers and show people who look like me that cycling is for everyone.

Your fondest memory on the bike

Fondest memory has to be when I was bikepacking in the Isle of Purbeck. The event was Brother in the Wild 25, a weekend of pure vibes, steep climbs, and crazy descents. Technical trails, insane cliffside views over the ocean. It felt like pure freedom to me, especially because I don't get to ride my hardtail MTB much, so anytime I get the chance, I will! It's probably my favourite bike.

I also have many precious memories with my kids on my cargo bike, from every nursery run to the weekly forest adventures we have. I've made a lot of special memories on that bike.

Where are you from: The Midlands
