Introducing: Karla Williams

Updated: Jan 23

Where are you from:

I’m from Peru, South America.

Where do you live:

I’ve been living in Suffolk, UK for almost half of my life now.

Are you part of a Club/team:

Yes! In real life, I’m an active member of various cycling communities that value connection, consistency, and mutual support. Virtually, the only team I race with is Aeonian Race Team (AEO), which I co-founded. AEO is a women’s-only e-racing team dedicated to empowering, supporting, and elevating female cyclists in competitive yet inclusive spaces.

Tell us about yourself.

I’m originally from Peru, but I’ve been calling Suffolk, UK home for nearly half my life now. I picked up cycling over 11 years ago to keep my mind and body healthy, and honestly, it’s taken over in the best way possible! Whether it’s out on the trails or virtually on Zwift, cycling is my happy place.

I’m a total Zwift addict and that led to co-founded Aeonian Race Team, a women’s-only virtual racing team that’s been growing strong from professional to amateur cyclists. I also run popular women’s events on Zwift during the colder months, because who says you can’t race hard when it’s chilly?

In real life, living in Suffolk with its beautiful forest trails, inspired a friend and me to co-found Boudicca GRVL Social. We host women-only and mixed group rides, chasing adventure wherever the sand, mud, and grassy paths take us. It’s all about good company, big smiles, and the belief that the best adventures are always just a pedal away.

What do you love about cycling

I love the freedom and connection cycling brings. Whether it’s the thrill of the ride, the amazing people you meet, or the way it challenges you physically and mentally, cycling has transformed my life. It opens doors to new adventures, friendships, and moments of self-discovery. I’m grateful every day, cycling isn’t just a sport,  it’s a way of life.

What barriers have you faced in cycling

Cycling hasn’t always felt like a welcoming place for me. Early on, there were plenty of moments when people doubted my strength or ability, often offering unsolicited advice.

Beyond that, the sport’s image, shaped by advertising that celebrates only a narrow body type and aesthetic, made it hard to see myself reflected. While some brands are starting to embrace diversity and celebrate all body types, there’s still a long way to go before true inclusivity becomes the norm.

I never faced outright exclusion from riding, but the culture often felt exclusive, like you had to fit a certain look, have the “right” equipment, and constantly prove yourself just to be accepted.

Why were you interested in contributing?

Cycling has transformed me physically, mentally, and emotionally. It’s shaped how I think, how I show up in the world, and the resilience I carry into every part of my life. The cycling community has opened doors to friendships, adventures, and new perspectives I never would have found otherwise.

I want to share that joy and empowerment with others. Cycling is about connection, confidence, and discovering your potential. No matter your age, background, or body type, you belong here if you find your tribe. By speaking openly and sharing our experiences, we can break down barriers and create a cycling culture where everyone can see themselves reflected. I’m committed to building that space and being part of the movement that makes it happen.

If you're comfortable, tell us about your personal experience of diversity in cycling :

My journey has taught me to tune out narrow expectations and focus on what truly matters: what I believe I can achieve and the support of those who see my worth. There’s room in cycling for everybody, background, and kind of rider, and I’m determined to keep riding to prove it.

Your fondest memory on the bike

I have countless great memories, but the most unforgettable was this April, my very first bikepacking tour, riding from my home in Suffolk all the way to Berlin, Germany. It was a birthday gift to myself, a bold step into the unknown. Alongside my friend Maria, we tackled 900 km filled with laughter, challenges, raw emotions, and deep conversations. The journey tested us physically and mentally, but it also awakened something profound inside me, a sense of freedom, resilience, and a new hunger to explore the world on two wheels. That trip didn’t just open a door; it completely transformed how I see cycling and life itself.

I am always looking for some free kinds of stuff over the internet. There are also some companies which give free samples. But after visiting your blog, I do not visit too many blogs. Thanks.wie lange hält ein stahlwandpool
