About

Tell us about yourself - My name is Casey, my cycling journey started at the age of 7 but it properly kicked off 5 years ago. I use cycling as a way to escape the world and also allow my creativity to shine without any limitations.

What do you love about cycling - Personally I love the thrill of speed, the best way to describe myself would be the person who is always willing to risk it a bit more than others while descending. - I will living in Sussex, Brighton at the time and riding my road bike to university as well as using it on the weekend to discover more of the county brought great curiosity. - Having worked in the cycling industry previously for 6 years, I have been fortunate to meet a lot of great people and also try out and own bikes some people would dream of. - I'm personally a social butterfly, I love being around people and starting conversations with people from all walks of life.

What barriers have you faced in cycling - Most noticeable for me personally is the lack of diversity and inclusion (we have a few great examples that are currently breaking down barriers in the UK scene) - Growing up in the rougher parts of south-east London, the idea of wearing lycra freely while riding a bike or even walking at a coffee stop was a deterrent for me at first. Wearing clothes over cycling gear.

Why were you interested in contributing? - I'm a big believer in trying to help people in multiple ways. If our words/ experiences can resonate with somebody and allow them to try cycling or even gather motivation to get back on the bike I'm all for it. - Representation matters, I would say I'm always noticeable in London cycling around, the more people that are visible allows people to feel connected as a community or be a part of something.

Your fondest memory on the bike - Picking up my bike and taking a road trip to the South of France. Me, myself and my bike for one week back in 2019. I have always been comfortable with being by myself but this was a journey to remember through the Cote d'Azur and into Monaco. Always dreamt about going to Monaco since I was a kid watching Formula 1. Another memory on the bike was Girona 2023 with Chaingang Cyclists. A week of amazing weather, jaw-dropping scenery and great company. A trip I will remember for a lifetime for on and off-bike activities.
